Save Madibeng has registered a pool of community activists who have put their necks on the block to break the neck of poor services, plague of misuse of state resources and elevation of visionless leaders within the Madibeng Local Municipality.
“There is an overwhelming majority of people who are discontent with the status quo in Madibeng and this has seen a lot of community activists lifting their hands to bring about change in Madibeng and save the municipality for sinking deeper,” said Save Madibeng’s Convener Sydney Monnakgotla
In 2016, a majority of the people voted for the ruling party however the leaders instead of fulfilling the mandate granted by the people who elected them, they fulfilled their own mandates of misusing state resources and provide shoddy services to the people.
Yesterday, the civic movement registered 30 Ward councilors to contest for 30 wards and further built alliances with a number of Independent candidates in all the other wards that it didn’t register candidates.
Monnakgotla said, “In everything we do, it is all about the communities hence in some wards we agreed to support independent candidates .”
Our people are tired of being led by the organisation that have no plans and are controlled by the people outside Madibeng for their next meal or their stomachs. These are the leaders that are not independent thinkers but are mere wheelbarrows.
The People of Madibeng want – effective, efficient, transparent and accountable local government. The people want their kasi’s, villages, dorpies, farms and suburbs to be protected and serviced and developed. Ratepayers want to get better services from the municipality not the substandard services they are punished with.
These Save Madibeng councilors will:
- Act as the eyes, the hands and the ears of their wards
- Promote the interests of their areas and also involve them in matters of the Madibeng Local Municipality
- Advance the collective goals of community organisations or nonprofit organisations
- Help to ensure that municipal services are provided in terms of section 195 of the Constitution of the country as well as in terms of the Municipal Systems Act in an economic, efficient, effective and transparent and moreover being accountable in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Finance Management and all the provisions of the Property Rates Act.
Save Madibeng councilors will rise and stand up for our communities from ward 1 to ward 41 and make sure that the local services demands by the people of Madibeng are met without favoritism and without fear.
